Abdomen - dorsoventral canine X-ray positioning guide

 

 

Positioning

  • Sternal recumbency
  • Extend forelimbs cranially
  • If sedated/GA extend hind limbs caudally, but a conscious dog may well lie with its leg as the shown photo
  • Use sandbags as required to restrain
  • Centre in midline (over spine) just caudally to costal arch
  • Collimate to cover diaphragm down to pelvic outlet
  • Ensure L/R marker in primary beam.

What to look for

  • Ensure not rotated, and no respiratory motion artefact.

Top tips

  • Can be a useful view in a conscious patient.
