Lumbosacral spine – lateral canine X-ray positioning guide

 

Positioning

  • Lateral recumbency
  • Pull pelvic limbs gently caudally and pad between them if required
  • Ensure hind limbs are superimposed
  • Centre over the body of L6
  • Collimate to include the lumbosacral spine
  • Ensure L/R marker in primary beam.

What to look for

  • Femoral heads should be superimposed on one another.

Top tips

  • The spinous processes at this level are shorter, so centre closer to the dorsal skin border
