Carpus - dorsopalmer canine X-ray positioning guide





Positioning
Sternal recumbency
Support the head on foam pads and turn away from the affected limb
Extend the affected limb cranially
Ensure foot in true dorsopalmar position
Centre over the middle of the carpus
Collimate to include the carpus and toes
Ensure L/R marker in primary beam

What to look for
Ensure foot and carpus are not rotated - each metacarpus should be clearly visualised

Top tips

Sometimes taping the foot down can help if the carpus keeps rotating.
