Skull – ventrodorsal canine X-ray positioning guide

Positioning

Dorsal recumbency
Ensure collar removed
Ensure ET tube running straight if under GA
Use a cradle to support body
Position with skull perpendicular to cassette
Centre in midline level with the orbits, adjusting depending upon skull shape
Ensure L/R marker in primary beam.
What to look for
When looking for skull to be perpendicular to table top use the mandible and ventral border of the skull, as these tend to be less distorted by head shape variations.
Top Tips
Look at the bullae and sinuses when looking for rotation.
