Skull – lateral canine X-ray positioning guide

Positioning
Lateral recumbency
Affected side down
Use a foam pad under the dog’s nose (not a sandbag)
Ensure ET tube straight as this can twist the head
Ensure collar removed
Centre over zygomatic arch
Collimate to include all of nasal bones and vault of skull
Ensure L/R marker in primary beam.
What to look for
Ensure a good lateral - look for superimposition of mandible, teeth and skull vault.
Top tips
Due to magnification it can be tricky on large dogs to get a perfectly superimposed lateral, but ensure the region of interest is lateral
